Meet Our Counselors

Jonathan van Arneman,

MA, LAPC, R-DMT

My name is Jonathan van Arneman (He/Him) and I am a queer, somatic psychotherapist. I am a brother, a son, a friend, and a partner. I grew up on the Caribbean island of St. Martin, where my family still resides, and I left home at the age of 17. Since then, I spent time in Canada, the UK, Spain, Germany, and Minnesota before returning to St. Martin in 2019 right before COVID. In 2023, I moved to Philly where I completed my Master’s in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling at Drexel University and Philly is where I currently call home.

Professionally, I am a registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT) and I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC). At the core of Dance/Movement Therapy is the belief that life is best experienced when the body, mind, and spirit are in alignment. I use this foundation in conjunction with a Liberation Psychology approach that contextualizes the past, acknowledges the present, and imagines a future way forward. With this in mind, clients can expect dynamic sessions that involve motivational interviewing, strengths based framing, somatic experiencing, journaling, and movement. I specialize in grief, traumatic grief, complex trauma (including religious trauma and/or colonial trauma), PTSD, and identity formation.

Ready to take the next step? Send me a message, and I’ll gladly offer a free consultation to discuss how we can work together.
